Costello veered from large gestures in repeating phrases to sharp staccato movements. The work mutated into a surreal, funeral tableaux with a blowing fan, blinding lights and sand pouring form the ceiling as Costello careered around the table like a dissolute Isadora Duncan. - Star Tribune

Anatomy of Child's Play
Anatomy of Child's Play explores identity, suppressed desires, and the power of the subconscious.
a humorous montage of images and elements
.Anatomy of Child's Play mixes projected video, Mozart and Nat King Cole, platinum blond wigs, a skirt made of tea cups, an enormous fish tank, a whole lot of onions, and oh yes, a house cat. They say never act with animals or children, but Vanessa gets away with this as well. - In My Humble Opinion

.Holmseth aids Voskuil in a full range of movement, leaning precariously in a variety of directions at sharp angles, lifting her off the ground, and jerking her back suddenly at times when she reaches for the ground, and other fallen birds. - In My Humble Opinion

In Kind Response
visually arresting
.This work is playing with the most basic of theatrical elements - the difference between light and darkness, sound and silence, movement and stillness. Under these conditions, the simple act of breathing can fill the space and rivet attention. - In My Humble Opinion

We As Makers
We As Makers is inspired, in part, by Verdi's famous operatic chorus, Va Pensiero. The work explores the emotional qualities necessary for leadership.
"Visually stunning
.Voskuil's piece, 'We as Makers,' occurs in perhaps the most fantastical site in the Twin Cities: the Mill City Museum's courtyard ruin
.The performance begins with the seven dancers posed throughout the floor of the dirty, rock-strewn ruin. Their wonderful costumes of tattered linen tops and pants and swaths of tapestry-like fabric are in colors that echo that ruin's tan and gold brick walls and rusty-red girders. " - mnartists.org

The Weight of Light
"
Vanessa Voskuil's 'The Weight of Light'
wants to explain modern love, love without children or money or families or marriage, the love of two people talking and touching. Voskuil throws everything in: her dancers hug each other while dangling from aerialists' silks, bark Barthes while sorting apples and oranges, and dance their need, their irritation, and their bodily affection to the courtly music of Geminiani and Vivaldi. - mnartists.org
